The CSMT Banner
CSMT Coat of Arms

The CSMT banner features a scallop at its base, symbolizing the vast journeys, both internal and external, that scientists must make to offer the gift of knowledge to the world. The crossed squares on the titled quadrant signify technology in its basic and advanced forms, which humanity must use to build its future. A rich navy blue dominates the banner, representing the CSMT commitment to truth and loyalty to its disciplines.

Dean’s Welcome

From its establishment in 1992 as a unique partnership between a university and a community college, The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) has upheld access and excellence as core values in fulfilling its mission as an open-door, community university. UTB/TSC prides itself on its dual philosophy of access and excellence, and this permeates throughout its academic programs. In this spirit, the College of Science, Mathematics and Technology offers a wide variety of programs ranging from certificate programs and associates degrees that meet local business needs to bachelors degrees and graduate programs that bring excellence and world-class experience to south Texas.

The College of Science, Mathematics and Technology (CSMT) is composed of six departments, namely Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy. Our 94 faculty members are dedicated to providing students with opportunities to develop technical expertise, scientific knowledge, job skills, and work ethics that prepare them for entry into both the private and public sectors and that encourage lifelong learning. CSMT programs provide both theory and practical training, thus being responsive to technological change and the business community while also stimulating analytical thinking and establishing a foundation for further education and learning. As such, emphasis is placed on individual initiative, self-discipline, critical thinking, achievement, and the ability to adapt to new and ever-changing technological and social environments. I am honored to serve as dean of this extraordinary college.
